Direct-chill and continuous casting
In direct-chill (DC) casting, liquid metal solidifies into slabs about 12 inches thick that are then hot rolled; it gives better mechanical properties and is the usual process at large mills. In continuous casting (CC), metal comes out directly as strip about 0.25 to 0.3 inches thick that goes to cold rolling; it is more efficient for soft alloys and intermediate gauges. Almexa runs both and chooses by alloy and use.
Visits and audits
Automotive and pharmaceutical customers usually audit the plant before approval. Visits are scheduled with your line's sales executive; the Cuautitlán Izcalli plant is about 25 miles from downtown Mexico City and 40 minutes from the international airport.
