Aluminum coil, sheet and circle weight calculator

Aluminum is sold by weight but specified by dimensions. This calculator converts thickness, width, diameters and pieces to kilograms using a density of 2.71 g/cm³. Enter millimeters; 1 in = 25.4 mm.

Form

How it is calculated

Coil weight = π/4 × (outside diameter² − inside diameter²) × width × density. Sheet weight = length × width × thickness × density × pieces. Circle weight = π/4 × diameter² × thickness × density × pieces. Aluminum density is 2.71 g/cm³ in 1000, 3000 and 5000 series alloys; 8000 series varies in the second decimal.

The result is theoretical: actual coil weight varies with winding tension and gauge tolerance. To order, use metric tons and let the sales executive adjust the footage.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an aluminum coil weigh?

It depends on width, thickness and diameters. A 1,000 mm (39 in) wide coil with a 1,300 mm outside diameter and a 508 mm core weighs about 3,050 kg (6,720 lb), regardless of thickness: thickness changes the footage, not the weight.

How many meters are in an aluminum coil?

Meters = coil cross-section area ÷ thickness. With the dimensions above and 1 mm thickness, about 1,125 m; with 0.5 mm, twice that.
